Typically, box 990 is used only for the “Thank you for calling XYZ Company” and box 991 is used for the rest of the auto attendant script. But not always. So the first thing to determine is which box is being used for the script.  To do this you will need to listen to what is recorded currently. Based on what is heard, that will determine what box will be used for the recording of the holiday greeting.

To listen to the current recording:

From any phone:
• Log into voicemail (press VOICEMAIL or press ICM + 33 or 333 or 3333)
• At the prompt, “enter your security code” enter 9 #
• At the prompt, “that was an invalid entry. Enter your mailbox number (or user ID)” enter 990#
• Enter security code 990997#
• Choose option 3 (manage mailbox)
• Choose option 1 (change greeting)
• Select greeting number 1
• Select option 1 to review the greeting
(At this point, you will hear what is currently recorded. If all that is heard is “Thank you for calling XYZ company” then you will need to go to box 991 to record the holiday greeting (instructions below). If the entire auto attendant script is heard, then you will record the holiday greeting in this box (990.)
Select 9 to return to the previous menu.

If you will be recording the holiday greeting in this box (990):
• At the prompt, “to select a greeting” press 5 (the holiday greeting will be greeting #5)
• To record, press 2
• When finished recording, press #
• To review, press 1
• To rerecord, press 2 or
• To save, press 9
(At this point, the holiday greeting is now active. If this is done ahead of time and it isn’t ready for the holiday greeting to play yet, then to change back to the regular greeting, press 9. To select a greeting, press 1. Enter greeting #1. You will now be back to the regular greeting. When you are ready to have the holiday greeting (#5) play, they’ll need to go through these steps again and change the greeting to #5. When the holiday is over, they’ll need to go through these steps again to change back to greeting #1).

BOX 991 To record the Holiday Greeting

• Enter security code 991997#

• Select option 2 to record the greeting
• Press # when finished
• Press 1 to review
• Press 9 to save the greeting
(At this point, the holiday greeting is now active. If this is done ahead of time and it isn’t ready for the holiday greeting to play yet, then to change back to the regular greeting, press 9. To select a greeting, press 1. Enter greeting #1.  Now it is back to their regular greeting. When the time comes to have the holiday greeting (#5) play, you will need to go through these steps again and change the greeting to #5. When the holiday is over, they’ll need to go through these steps again to change back to greeting #1).
